Issue Quick and Easy Way How to Fix AMD Error 1603

An AMD 1603 error usually occurs when using the AMD installation program to install the AMD software package. You will notice that the driver you are trying to install is not fully installed, and shortly after that Windows Update will no longer work. In this last part of our troubleshooting series, we will examine the issue of AMD error 1603.

How can the error AMD 1603, number, be corrected?

Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps below, it is best to restart your computer. This action updates the operating system and temporarily deletes damaged data that may be causing the problem.

Several factors can cause this particular problem, ranging from a corrupted registry key to a missed Windows update. The following steps need to be taken to solve this problem.

Start SFC scan

When you scan SFC files or system files, your computer scans for damaged system files and tries to recover those files.

  • Open the Start menu and enter cmd. Right-click the command line icon and click Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC invitation when it appears.
  • On the command line, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  • Enter DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter.
  • This involves checking the system file and repairing any damaged system files on your computer.
  • Reboot your computer and try to reinstall the AMD drivers.

Check that error 1603 AMD is stored.

Reinstalling distributed files with Visual C++

This problem can also be caused by corruption of Microsoft Visual C++ distributions installed on the local computer. In order to deal with this, we have to do the following.

  • Get the versions of Microsoft Visual C++ distributions now listed in the Programs and Features section.
  • Uninstall all currently installed versions of Microsoft Visual C++.
  • You can download the Microsoft Visual C++ distribution kit here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads.

Check that error 1603 AMD is stored.

Install the AMDdrivers correctly.

  • Download the AMD cleaning program from here https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601.
  • Find the file where it is saved and double-click AMDCleanupUtility.exe.
  • A dialog box should appear indicating that the AMD cleaning utility has detected that the system is in an unsafe mode and can be restarted to run the utility in safe mode:
  • Click Yes, the system will restart and the AMD Cleaning Utility will run in safe mode.
  • In the following dialog box, a warning is displayed that the AMD cleaning utility will remove all components and applications from the AMD driver.
  • Click on OK to continue
  • After pressing OK, the utility is reduced to the notification area (system tray) and progress is displayed as a tooltip.
  • The cleaning process continues in the background.  To check progress, move the mouse over the AMD icon in the notification area.
  • When the cleaning process is complete, a message is displayed indicating that the cleaning has been successfully completed. Click View Report to see a list of items that have been removed, otherwise click Done to exit the tool.
  • Restart the computer.

After uninstalling the drivers, it is time to install the latest driver update. This can be done with the AMD driver auto-detection tool, which can be downloaded from https://www.amd.com/en/support.

  • Go to the AMD Drivers and Support page and read the section Automatic Identification and Installation of Graphical Drivers for Windows.
  • Click the LOAD NOW button to start loading the executable file from the tool.
  • Once the download is complete, run the file to start the installer.
  • Click Set to extract the desired files.
  • As soon as the unpacking of the files is completed, the tool should start automatically.
  • Read the end-user license agreement and information about the user’s development program.
  • Click the Accept and Set button to continue, or close the window to exit AMD’s automatic detection tool.
  • After clicking Accept and Install, the tool tries to detect the installed AMD graphics product and operating system.
  • Once you have successfully determined your system configuration, the tool displays the latest recommended and additional drivers compatible with your graphics product, as well as the driver version currently installed.
  • Select the desired version and choose express installation.
  • As soon as the driver package has been downloaded, the installation should start automatically.
  • Reboot the computer

Check that error 1603 AMD is stored.

Temporary shutdownAntivirus

One of the factors that can cause this problem is the antivirus software installed on your computer. To find out if this is the cause of the problem, try turning it off.

If you are using Windows security

  • Select Start – Settings > Update and security – Windows Security – Virus and threat protection > Manage settings.
  • Disable real-time protection.

If you have Avast

  • Locate the Avast icon in the notification area of your computer and right-click on it.
  • Click on the Avast sign.
  • Find options to disable the program – the options are to disable the program for 10 minutes, an hour until the computer restarts, or permanently (until you turn it on yourself). Select the option you prefer and disable the program.

If you use AVG

  • Locate the AVG icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click it.
  • Click on the Temporarily disable AVG protection button.
  • Select how long AVG should be turned off and whether the AVG firewall should also be turned off.
  • Click OK to deactivate the antivirus program.

If you’re using McAfee

  • Locate the McAfee Antivirus icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click it.
  • Click on Close.
  • You should see a dialog box stating that the McAfee protection is disabled. In this dialog box, click Yes to deactivate the antivirus program.

Check that error 1603 AMD is stored.

Installing Folder AMD .

  • Press Windows + E and open Windows Explorer.
  • Go to this PC > Local drive (C:) or the location of your Windows installation.
  • There, select the AMD folder and press Shift + Del. If you are asked to grant administrator rights for this action, you must do so.
  • Try reinstalling the AMD drivers.

Check that error 1603 AMD is stored.

Updating windows

  • Click Start, type Windows Update and press Enter.
  • Click the Check for Updates button and wait for Windows to boot up and update your system.
  • Reboot the computer

Check that error 1603 AMD is stored.
