How to Fix Steam Client Boottrapper Not Responding Issue

Steam is a digital video game distribution platform that allows subscribers to buy their favorite computer games and download them directly to their computer. It’s a faster way to get the game than to go to the physical store and get a copy of the game. Although it’s a pretty solid platform, there are times when there are some problems that we are going to solve today. In this last article in our series of bug fixes, we will discuss the problem of the Steam client boot device not responding.

Before following the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem, I recommend that you first try restarting your computer. This way you can update your operating system, remove damaged temporary data and solve most software problems quite efficiently.

Different factors can cause this particular problem, ranging from a damaged file to hardware problems. The following measures are recommended to solve this problem.

  • Choose the option with NONE – Unsubscribe all beta programs. Close Steam and open Task Manager to complete all steam processes. Restart your computer and reopen steam. If your client was part of a beta program, it will install a few updates before you can play your games again.
  • If you have problems logging out of the beta, you can browse through your folder and delete the beta files from there. The default location of your Steam folder is C: Program files (x86) Team. Press the Win + R key. This should activate the runtime popup application. In the dialog box, type C: Program files (x86) Team.
  • Go to the Packages folder and delete all files starting with the beta version. Close the window and after restarting the client, follow the beta logout method as described in step 4.

Clearing the start cover

One factor that can cause this problem is a corrupted startup cache. To check if he is guilty, you need to delete the data cached by Steam.

  • Open your steam client and go to the settings. You can find this information in the menu on the top left.
  • Downloads can be found in the Configuration section.
  • Click on Clear Download Cache. Click on OK to confirm your choice and after a while Steam will ask for your login details.
  • After you have reconnected, the steam will start as planned.

  • Right-click on the Steam client and select Run as Administrator.

Disabling antivirus

Sometimes the problem can be caused by the intervention of antivirus software. You can check whether this is the cause of the problem by disabling the computer’s security software.

Desperate

  • Right click on the avast! icon in the system tray. Select the avast! control and you can select avast! for 10 minutes, 1 hour until your computer reboots or runs continuously.

Bit Defanta

  • Double-click the system icon for Bit Defender.
  • When the Bit Defender window appears, move the mouse pointer to the left and click >> Virus Protection.
  • Move the mouse cursor over the black mark of the activated virus protection and click.
  • Black tracks turn red, >> virus protection is disabled.
  • Move the mouse arrow to the top right corner and click the down arrows.
  • Bit Defender is now inactive.
  • To activate the Bit Defender, follow the same steps as for activation.

Microsoft Security Fundamentals

  • Right-click the IEM icon in the system tray and select Open.
  • Go to the Settings tab and click the Live Security button.
  • Uncheck the checkbox next to Enable real-time protection.
  • Click on the Save changes button.
  • Disconnect from the IEM when you’re done.

ESET

  • Double-click the system tray icon to open the main window of the application.
  • Or via Start >> All Programs >> ESET >> ESET Smart Security.
  • Press Settings >> Virus and Spyware Protection >> Temporarily Disable Virus and Spyware Protection.
  • When prompted to confirm the temporary stop, select Yes.
  • Pay attention: Security starts automatically after the system restarts.

McAfee

  • Go to the system tray in the lower right corner and find the McAfee icon.
  • Right-click on -> select Exit.
  • A pop-up window will warn you that security is now disabled. Click Yes to deactivate virus protection.

If the problem does not occur when the antivirus software is turned off, add steam to the exception list.

Disable all VPN programs

Steam recommends running the program without starting the VPN, as this may cause problems.

  • Click the Windows + R button to open the Run application. Enter cmd in the dialog box. This is a command to invoke the command line.
  • Enter the netsh winsock reset directory and press Enter. If the cmdlet was successful, you should have successfully received the message Reset Winsock directory.
  • Restart the computer.
