How to Fix SKSE64 Issue Not Working

The Skyrim Script Extender 64 tool, also known as SKSE64, is an editing tool that can be used to create complex mods in the Skyrim special edition. It is quite popular and is used to create some of the most popular mod games. Although it is a reliable working tool, problems can sometimes arise. In this last article in our series we discuss the problem of the failure of SKSE64.

Before following the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem, I recommend that you first try restarting your computer. This way you can update your operating system, remove damaged temporary data and solve most software problems quite efficiently.

Different factors can cause this particular problem, from interference from the antivirus program to the defective model. The following measures are recommended to solve this problem.

Granting access to the firewall

A common reason for this problem is that it is blocked by the firewall. So you need to make sure he has access to the firewall.

  • Click on the Start menu and select the Settings icon.
  • Click on the Updates and Security option in the settings.
  • Select the Windows Security option in the left pane.
  • Click on the option Firewall and network security.
  • Select the option Allow application via firewall.
  • Click on the Edit Settings button to grant the required rights.
  • Authorize Skyrim and all Skyrim-related applications on the public and private network.

If you use McAfee

  • Locate the McAfee Antivirus icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click it.
  • Click on Close.
  • You should see a dialog box stating that the McAfee protection is disabled. In this dialog box, click Yes to deactivate the antivirus program.

If Skyrim Script Extender 64 does not work in this mode, you will need to add the game to the exception list of your antivirus software.

  • Click on the Start menu and select the Settings icon.
  • Click on the Updates and Security option in the settings.
  • Select Security window in the left pane.
  • Now choose protection against viruses and threats.
  • In the Virus and Threat Security Settings section, click Manage Settings.
  • Now scroll down and click the Add or Remove Exception button under the Exception heading.
  • Click the Add Exception button and select Folder.
  • Add the Skyrim installation folder.

Bit Defanta

  • Open Bitdefender and go to the security window by clicking on the shield icon in the figure below.
  • Click on the link titled View Modules.
  • Click on the Settings icon in the upper right corner of the antivirus program.
  • Click on the Exceptions tab available in the window.
  • Click on the list of files and folders that are excluded from the scan.
  • Press the ADD. Go to the games directory and select a folder to exclude it from the scan. You must also select both before adding an exception.
  • Click on the Add button and save your changes.
  • You can also add an executable set to the list of exceptions by clicking on the List of excluded processes button.

AvastVirus protection

  • Open the Avast interface.
  • Press the Settings button located at the bottom left of the screen.
  • Go to the General section of the Settings chapter and scroll down until you find the exceptions.
  • Expand the section and you will see a dialog where you can add global exceptions. Go to your game directory with the Browse option.
  • Once you have selected a game folder, press the ADD button in the lower left corner of the screen. Click OK and it will be added to Avast’s worldwide exceptions.

McAfee Virus Protection

  • Open McAfee Antivirus by clicking its icon on the toolbar in the lower right corner of Windows.
  • Click on Security management.
  • Select the scheduler and start the scan option in the Anti-Virus and Spyware window.
  • Select the Scan Schemes option from the list of the following options A new window will open where you can see the Add button on the Excluded Files and Folders tab. Select the game folder after clicking the Add button in the file explorer.
  • Once you have reached the location, select a folder and save the changes.

Kaspersky AB

  • Open Kaspersky AV using the icon in the system tray in the lower-right corner of the screen.
  • Go to the Settings menu.
  • Click the Advanced tab and select the Threats and Exclusions tab for the specified options.
  • Click on the Configure Exceptions button in the center of the screen.
  • Select the Add Presence option at the bottom right of the screen.
  • Now go to the games directory with the Browse button. Once there, select a folder and save the changes.

Malicious bytes

  • Open the Malicious bars window by clicking on the taskbar icon in the lower right corner of the screen or on the startup file of the program.
  • After opening the program, click on the Malware Exceptions tab on the left side of the window.
  • This tab contains the option Add folder. Click on it and you will be taken to the file explorer, from where you can easily select a game folder. Once there, select a folder and save the changes.

Check if there is still a problem when Skyrim Script Extender 64 does not work.

Deactivation of defective mods

The final troubleshooting action you can take is to turn off any faulty modifications that may be causing the problem.

  • Run the old V-roll: Skyrim Special Edition and select Mods from the main menu.
  • Find the mod you want to delete in your library.
  • Select the mod you want to delete and choose Delete or Deactivate.
