How to Fix Kindle Not Showing On PC Issue

The Kindle is a popular electronic reading device, developed and sold by Amazon. Owners of this device can read their favorite e-books, which are available at Amazon bookstores. Although it is a reliable device, sometimes problems can arise. In this last part of our troubleshooting series, we look at a Kindle problem that does not appear on a PC.

How to fix what does not appear on the computer screen

The correct way to connect the Kindle to your computer and transfer files is as follows.

  • Connect the small end of the USB cable to the micro-USB port on the bottom of the Kindle.
  • Connect the other end of the USB cable to a USB port on your computer. The computer will automatically recognize the Kindle.
  • Press the Start button and then press Computer. Double-click the Kindle icon.
  • Drag and drop downloaded files to the Documents folder in the Kindle window.
  • Click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the lower-right corner of the system tray. Click on Kindle to safely remove it from your computer.
  • Disconnect the Kindle from your computer.

Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps below, it is best to restart your computer. This action updates the operating system and temporarily deletes damaged data that may be causing the problem.

Various factors can cause this particular problem, ranging from a faulty cable to incorrect settings. The following steps need to be taken to solve this problem.

Check that the USB cable works

To connect KIndle to your computer you need a USB cable. If the cable you are using is defective, this problem may occur. Try using a different USB cable and connect it to a different USB port on your computer.

Make sure the Kindle still appears on the PC.

Check connection parameters

  • Connect the Kindle to a working USB port on your computer and turn the Kindle off completely. Try turning it on again and see if the computer detects any hardware. To restart the Kindle, press and hold the power button for approximately 40 seconds. If the restart process is in progress, release it.
  • Connect the Kindle to your computer and open the Kindle. Drag the slider down to open the drop-down menu and the connection options will appear in the notification bar. Select the Connect as camera option. See if it’s been discovered.
  • You can use the calibre to connect the Kindle to your computer. Switch off the PC and ignite all connected cables. After turning on your computer, open the calibre and connect the Kindle to your PC. Now turn on the Kindle and see if the connection is successful.
  • Make sure PIN authentication is disabled for your Kindle. The Kindle has an option that offers an extra level of safety. You can disable this function completely or enter a PIN code when establishing the connection.
  • Enable the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) on your Kindle You can both try (on and off) and see which one solves the problem for you. You can easily change this setting by going to Settings > Device > ADB On/Off.
  • You can try to connect the Kindle via a USB hub.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of the Kindle application installed on your Kindle.

Make sure the Kindle still appears on the PC.

  • In the devmgmt.msc dialog box, press Windows + R and type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
  • In the Device Manager, you can expand the Mobile Device category. The Kindle or the Kindle is listed as a device with a small yellow exclamation mark. Right-click and select Update driver.
  • Select the second option Search for drivers on my computer.
  • Select the option Let me choose from the list of available drivers for my computer.
  • Select Portable devices and browse the list until you find the MTP driver. You can clear the Show only compatible drivers check box to get a longer list. Restart your computer after making the changes.

Make sure the Kindle still appears on the PC.

Disconnect USB dialing interruption

  • Press Windows + R to launch the computer startup application. In the dialog box, call the control panel and press Enter.
  • Select Hardware and Sound from the list of categories.
  • Click on Performance Options. A new window will appear with all your IT performance plans. Select the one you are using and click the Edit Plan Settings button.
  • Go to Advanced Settings and click Change Advanced Performance Settings.
  • Find the USB settings in the list of options and click on them to expand them. You will see another name, called USB Selective Pause Settings. Click again to enlarge and in both cases select Disconnected (Battery On and Connection On). Save the changes and disappear.
  • Restart the Kindle computer and the device.

Make sure the Kindle still appears on the PC.
