How to fix a Dell Inspiron laptop that suddenly loses sound, audio functions that don’t work

This article describes some possible sound or audio solutions for your Dell Inspiron laptop. Read on and find out what to do if your laptop suddenly loses sound or doesn’t produce sound from the built-in speakers.

There are several reasons your Dell Inspiron notebook’s audio or audio feature may not work. The built-in speakers may not be selected or turned off, the headphone jack may not work, the audio driver or sound card may be damaged, or the Windows system may not work properly. Sometimes the problem is only isolated by a computer program, such as the media player, that is not properly configured. In the worst case, your laptop may not produce sound due to a damaged component, such as a faulty speaker. If the fault relates to the defective device, the only hope is that the Dell technician will repair the damage. This means that you need to take your laptop to a service center to evaluate and repair your equipment. But before rushing to the service center, try a few alternatives and try to solve the problem on your own. If the problem you are facing is actually a software problem and not a hardware problem, it is likely that it will be solved by one of the standard solutions. Read on and find out what options you might need to try first.

Audio troubleshooting solutions for Dell InspironNotebooks

Try one of the following methods to see if one of them can solve the problem and make sure the sound on your Dell Inspiron laptop is backed up and working properly.

First method: Performing audio tests and diagnostics.

Several diagnostic tools are available for your Dell Inspiron laptop. If possible, select and use the most appropriate tool to separate hardware problems from noise-related software problems on your computer. To help you make a decision, you can try the Pre-Assessment Test (PSA) or the Advanced System Pre-Assessment (ePSA). This will help you determine whether the problem you are experiencing is software or hardware. Follow the steps below to start the sequence of the system overview assessment (SAA):

  1. Make sure your laptop is turned off.
  2. When the notebook is switched off, press and hold the Fn button and press the Power key to switch on the system.
  3. Release both buttons when the unit is turned on.
  4. The PSA diagnostic sequence is then activated.

Consider alarms or error messages when performing the diagnostic test.

If you receive an error message, it may indicate a hardware problem. Otherwise it’s a software problem. If you require additional pre-start diagnostic assistance or encounter errors during test startup, please contact Dell Support.

Second method: Restart the notebook.

If this is the first time you experience the problem of no sound or audio on your Dell Inspiron laptop, a reboot may fix the bug that may have prevented the built-in speakers from doing their job. Restart the laptop as usual, and then test the speakers to see what happens next.

Third method: Check the sound or audio settings of your notebook.

Check the sound settings to make sure your notebook’s speakers are not just muted.

  1. Click on the Volume/Tone icon in the taskbar and adjust or increase the volume if necessary.
  2. You can also right-click the same volume/sound icon in the taskbar and then select sounds to check the sound pattern. You can also select Volume Control to adjust the volume of current audio devices such as stereo headphones or headphones. B. the built-in speaker or audio driver.

Also check the speaker connection. When using external speakers, make sure they are connected properly.

Fourth method: Reinstall or update the audio drivers and BIOS (System Setup) settings for your Dell Inspiron notebook computer.

Minor sound problems on laptops are usually due to outdated or damaged audio drivers and incorrect BIOS settings. Don’t forget to update the drivers and BIOS on a regular basis. This helps to ensure optimal performance of your computer.

To reinstall the device driver on your Dell Inspiron 1 laptop:

  1. Press the Windows logo keyboard + R key.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type devmgmt.msc and and press Enter .
  3. In the Device Manager window, click + or > next to Sound, Video and Game Controller.
  4. Right-click on the audio controller installed on your PC, e.g. Realtek High Definition Audio, , and then click Remove.
  5. In the Uninstall Device window, select the Uninstall Driver Software from this device checkbox and click OK.
  6. Reboot your PC and let Microsoft Windows automatically reinstall the drivers.

If this doesn’t solve the problem and you still can’t hear the sound from your Dell Inspiron, try downloading and updating the latest audio driver to your computer.

  • To access the BIOS or system configuration of your Dell Inspiron computer, press the F2 key on the Dell logo repeatedly during the boot process. You can also press the F12 button on the Dell logo several times during the startup process and then select BIOS Setup or System Setup from the BIOS Setup menu. Check the current version of the BIOS installation and install the latest BIOS version if necessary.

To update your BIOS, you can download the latest drivers from Dell’s support website or install a BIOS update using a USB boot driver. If you choose the latter, download the BIOS update file and save it to a bootable USB stick. After preparing the BIOS update file and the bootable USB stick, follow these steps

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Connect the USB stick to the laptop.
  3. Turn on our laptop.

  5. Use the arrow keys to select USB storage device , then press the Enter/Return key on the keyboard.
  6. On the command line, type the full name of the BIOS file (including the file name extension) and press Enter .
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions of the BIOS Update program to complete the update process.

Then check to see if you can now hear the sound from the built-in speakers on your Dell Inspiron laptop.

Last resort: Reformat and reinstall Windows.

More complex software problems on laptops are usually solved by reformatting and reinstalling the operating system. All files and data stored on the laptop will be deleted so that the device can be put back on track. Any software errors that prevent the operation of the built-in speaker system will also be eliminated during operation. If you want to take a snapshot, you need to back up your critical data to another device or storage medium. So keep up the good work:

  1. Go to your desktop or home screen.
  2. Click on Browse Web and Windows.
  3. Enter RESET.
  4. In section Reset this PC , press First steps.
  5. Select Delete All.
  6. Select Just delete my files.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Windows reboot and installation process. Your computer will restart after the reset is complete.

If none of the above methods has resolved the issue and your Dell Inspiron laptop still lacks sound or audio, contact Dell Support for more options. At this point you can consider the failure of the equipment as the primary cause.
